Our story
Founded in 2021.
Building ever since.
Supercritical was founded by CEO Michelle You and CTO Aaron Randall — the team behind Songkick (20M monthly users, acquired by Warner Music Group). They saw a market where buyers couldn’t trust what they were purchasing and projects couldn’t access the capital they needed. The gap between CDR ambition and CDR delivery was enormous.
We started by building the marketplace with live pricing, availability, and quality data across the global CDR market. Then we went further. We began sourcing and co-developing the supply our buyers needed. We signed exclusive partnerships with the world’s best biochar projects. We worked with a pre-operational biochar project to facilitate a 1M tonne offtake with Microsoft.
Today, we operate on both sides of the market. For buyers, we source, create, and guarantee supply. For projects, we provide committed demand, end-to-end development, and access to 200+ corporate buyers.

Dr Mai Bui
Director of Climate Science
Holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Monash University, where she focused on post-combustion CO₂ capture from brown coal flue gas. Previously serving as a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Environmental Policy, Imperial College London, and co-leading the Clean Fossil and Bioenergy Research Group.

Dr Genevieve Hodgins
Lead Climate Scientist
Holds an EngD in Carbon Capture and Storage and Cleaner Fossil Energies from the University of Nottingham. Previously managed the UK government-funded GGR-D Biochar Demonstrator, the UK's largest biochar field trial.

Dr Disni Gamaralalage
Climate Scientist
Holds an MSc and PhD from University of Tokyo and brings 8 years of experience in climate and sustainability research. She previously led the work packages on lifecycle analysis and techno-economic assessment for the UK government-funded Biochar Demonstrator.

Holds an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London and an MA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge.
